Bill and I met the summer before high school when we were both playing in the orchestra for the Mikado at the Joplin Little Theater.  It wasn’t until later, after the 25th reunion, that we became good friends when a mutual friend told Bill I was in Texas and how to reach me.  He called me, and forever after, we supported each other through some rough patches.  He was always willing to help in more tangible ways.  For example, once when he called just to chat, I told him I was struggling to install a ceiling fan.  Without being asked, he came over and had it up in no time.  Or, the time I had an emergency stay in the hospital and he took my dog home with him so I wouldn’t have to worry about her.  Good memories . . . I remember riding together on numerous occasions, dogs in the backseat, on the way to visit our mothers in Joplin, playing silly games like Name-That-Showtune to keep each other awake

As we got older, we lost touch and the calls stopped.  I thought there was plenty of time . . . and somehow believed he’d always be there.  I miss him dearly.
